Expansion tank (expansion tank):
Main Role: As a key safety accessory of heat transfer oil circulation system.
Function: accommodate the increased volume of heat transfer oil when it is subjected to thermal expansion; prevent system overpressure; provide cold oil supplementation to maintain stable system pressure; isolate the air (usually filled with nitrogen to protect); prevent oxidation and deterioration of high-temperature heat transfer oil; to facilitate the discharge of gas in the system and the refilling of heat transfer oil.
Purpose: ensure the safe and stable operation of the heat transfer oil system, and provide a reliable heat source for the heating equipment (such as reboiler).
Evaporator: to carry out forced evaporation (vapourization) of the process equipment.
Function: In the decompression (vacuum) and heating conditions, the use of thermal oil or steam and other heat sources, the feed (usually the bottom of the decompression tower heavy oil or similar heavy components) in the lighter components of the rapid evaporation and separation.
Purpose: Deep separation of heavy oil components to maximise recovery of valuable fractions (e.g. lubricant feedstock, FCC feedstock) or to prepare qualified feedstock (e.g. depressurised residue) for subsequent processes (e.g. coking).
Synergy: Stable thermal oil systems secured by expansion tanks often provide a heat source for equipment requiring high temperature heating, such as evaporators.
The evaporator uses this heat to complete the core separation process. Together, they serve the refining process with efficient heat transfer and deep processing of heavy oils.
