Expansion tank, also known as high-level tank, is essential in the heating system of liquid-phase thermal oil furnace. In practical use, the expansion tank of some devices often needs to be nitrogen sealed. One of the functions of the nitrogen seal in the expansion tank is to prevent the oxidation of the heat transfer fluid due to contact with air, and to apply a certain pressure to maintain the operation of the liquid phase. Generally speaking, the oxidation of heat transfer fluid can be controlled through system settings, operations, and the addition of high-temperature antioxidants, such as raising the position of the expansion tank, using small-diameter expansion tubes to prevent convection between hot and cold oil, and controlling the temperature of the expansion tank below 60 ºC. If the initial boiling point of the heat transfer fluid is higher than the maximum operating temperature of the system, nitrogen sealing may not be used; If the initial boiling point of the heat transfer fluid is lower than the maximum operating temperature of the system, some components may vaporize, causing pump cavitation and significant evaporation losses. In this case, nitrogen sealing must be used.
The expansion tank plays an important role in the hot oil circulation system: (1) storing the expansion amount after heating, (2) supplementing the organic heat carrier, (3) discharging the gas in the liquid-phase furnace and system during the heating process, (4) injecting oil into the tank first and automatically flowing into the furnace system pipeline, acting as an intermediate tank, (5) replacing the hot medium in the furnace with cold oil during power outage, and (6) supplementing the pressure head at a high position.
