A packed tower refers to a process with low fluid resistance, suitable for processing large amounts of gas and small amounts of liquid. The liquid flows along the surface of the packing from top to bottom, and the gas and liquid flow in reverse or parallel depending on the specific reaction. The liquid volume in the packed tower is relatively small. Whether in gas or liquid phase, its flow pattern inside the tower is close to piston flow. If solid phase is generated during the reaction process, packed towers should not be used.
The packed tower is filled with various shapes of fillers (called fillers) inside the tower, causing the liquid to flow along the surface of the fillers and form a liquid film, which is dispersed in the continuously flowing gas. The gas-liquid two-phase contact surface is on the liquid film surface of the fillers. It belongs to membrane like contact equipment.
