Strategically positioned at the zenith of the system, the high-level tank not only accommodates the thermal expansion of the heat transfer fluid but also performs several other critical roles. It facilitates the removal of light components from newly filled products and low-boiling materials generated during operations. Additionally, it compensates for evaporation and operational losses, provides nitrogen sealing, and more.
In practical applications, certain device high-level tanks necessitate nitrogen sealing. This crucial feature prevents oxidation of the heat transfer fluid by limiting its exposure to air and applies a specific pressure to sustain liquid phase operation efficiently.
Optimizing the oxidation control of heat transfer fluid can be achieved through strategic system configurations and operations. Introducing high-temperature antioxidants, elevating the expansion tank's position, employing small-diameter expansion tubes to hinder convection between hot and cold oil, and maintaining the high-level tank's temperature below 60 ºC are effective measures. If the initial boiling point of the heat transfer fluid surpasses the maximum system operating temperature, nitrogen sealing may be unnecessary. Conversely, if the boiling point is lower, vaporization may occur, leading to pump cavitation and excessive evaporation losses, in which case, nitrogen sealing becomes imperative.
