In the liquid-phase heat transfer oil heating system, the design and use of the expansion tank are important parameters for the successful operation of the entire system. Proper design, installation, and maintenance of the expansion tank are beneficial for extending the life of the heat transfer oil and indirectly protecting the heater, hot oil pump, and other equipment components. A properly designed and installed high-level expansion tank can solve many problems in the long-term operation of the heat transfer system. Expansion tanks are usually located at the highest point of the system, so in addition to accommodating the thermal expansion of the heat transfer fluid, they also have other important functions, such as emptying light components in newly filled products and low boiling materials generated during operation, supplementing evaporation and operational losses, nitrogen sealing, etc.
The expansion tank plays an important role in the hot oil circulation system: (1) storing the expansion amount after heating, (2) supplementing the organic heat carrier, (3) discharging the gas in the liquid-phase furnace and system during the heating process, (4) injecting oil into the tank first and automatically flowing into the furnace system pipeline, acting as an intermediate tank, (5) replacing the hot medium in the furnace with cold oil during power outage, and (6) supplementing the pressure head at a high position.
