Project Background
Jiangsu Huadian Propylene Oxide Project focuses on the efficient production of propylene oxide (PO), which is a key raw material in the fields of polyurethane, fine chemicals, etc. The project adopts the internationally leading ethylbenzene co-oxidation process, aiming to achieve an annual output of 500 tons of propylene oxide and supporting products, break the foreign technology monopoly, and promote the upgrading of the domestic high-end chemical industry chain.
Technical Challenges
- Highly corrosive medium treatment: The wastewater generated during the production of propylene oxide contains highly corrosive organic matter, which places extremely high demands on the material and sealing of the cooling tower;
- Heat recovery efficiency: Traditional cooling towers have high energy consumption, and a waste heat recovery system needs to be integrated to reduce the overall energy consumption;
- Environmental compliance: It is necessary to meet the "Petrochemical Industry Pollutant Emission Standards" to control VOCs emissions and wastewater COD values.
Solution
Tongyang Chemical customized and developed the following core equipment for the project:
1. Wastewater cooling tower:
- The inner lining is made of titanium-stainless steel composite material, which improves corrosion resistance by 40% and extends the service life to 15 years;
- Integrated plate heat exchange module, recovers waste heat for preheating reaction materials, and reduces comprehensive energy consumption by 25%.
2. Absorption cooling tower:
- Optimized packing layer design, gas-liquid contact efficiency increased by 30%, and absorbent circulation volume reduced by 20%;
- Equipped with an online monitoring system to adjust pH value and temperature in real time to ensure that tail gas emissions meet standards (VOCs≤50mg/m³).
Project results
- Production capacity meets standards: annual production of 500 tons of propylene oxide, by-product recovery rate exceeds 98%;
- Energy saving and consumption reduction: The comprehensive energy efficiency ratio (EER) of the cooling system reaches 4.2, saving about 1,500 tons of standard coal annually;
