The floating head heat exchanger mainly consists of components such as the shell, floating head tube box, and tube bundle. One end of the tube plate is fixed between the shell and the tube box, and the other end of the tube plate can move freely within the shell, which means that the shell and tube bundle can expand freely, so there is no temperature difference stress between the tube bundle and the shell. Generally, the floating head is designed as a detachable structure, allowing the tube bundle to be freely withdrawn and installed. The floating head of a floating head heat exchanger also has different structural types. It uses clamp rings and bolts to seal and fit the floating head and the tube plate, so that the fluid inside and between the tubes does not leak from each other. This structure is not used much now. According to the design specifications, the floating head cover flange is directly fastened to the hook ring with bolts to seal and fit the floating head flange and the movable tube plate. Although the effective heat transfer area of the tube bundle is reduced, the sealing performance is reliable and the overall structure is relatively compact.
